Abandoned oil tanks should be emptied, cleaned, removed, and disposed of. Removing the tank prevents expensive future contamination.
Oil Tanks

This Lake house in Montville Township had two abandoned oil tanks in the ground that we removed to prevent the chance of any future ground contamination. The tanks are then removed to an environmentally approved facility where they are recycled. Removing an abandoned tank is the safest way to ensure that there will not be an environmental problem in the future. Whenever buying a home, always ask about how an old oil tank had been abandoned. If the seller is reluctant to discuss or provide documentation, you would be best to avoid that property unless you want to bear the financial burden of the eventual cleanup.
